Education can be a difficult area for many parents; it can also be very difficult for teachers too, with a constantly changing government agenda.

As parents we just want a good service with good choice, generally we don't want to get caught up in who should pay for what or any other political debate - although we do want the protection of the law. We also want to influence the law and perhaps the new Autism Bill 2009 shows how powerful the parent lobby can be.

The Education Act directs Local Authorities to provide a support service for parents, for us it is Norfolk Parent Partnership. It is funded by the LA but is at 'arms length'.

Parent Partnership is there to help parents and carers, offering support about education. They produce leaflets and a termly newsletter and schools distribute these to children who have statements.

Family Voice has 2 representatives on their steering group.
